COCKTAIL OF THE WEEK: SMOKY MARTINI by LABEL 5

The Smoky Martini is a very easy variation of the Martini. There is no vermouth, no, in this cocktail it is a dash of LABEL 5 SCOTCH WHISKY  that adds that a background to the gin. There is a lot of gin so I suggest that when you make this drink you use a premium brand. I also recommend a London dry because it works well with the smoky Scotches and the smokier the better. Also, before you drop that lemon twist into the glass, remember to twist it over the drink to release some of the essence - it’s the perfect finishing touch.

Ingredients:

dash of LABEL 5 SCOTCH WHISKY
2 1/2 oz gin
lemon twist for garnish

Preparation:
Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass filled with ice.
Stir well.
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish with a lemon twist.

RP-Label 5 Scotch third in international ice hockey

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines, playing under the colors of Label 5 Scotch Whisky, got back at the Qatar Qanucks yesterday and claimed third place in the first Philippine International Ice Hockey Championship at the SM Mall of Asia Ice Skating Rink.

Winners of the Manila Ice Hockey League over the last two seasons, Label 5 scored the first goal of the match in the first of three periods courtesy of Allison Lapiz, but tinkered with defeat when it allowed Qatar to level up soon after.

With only five minutes left in the deciding period, Pierre Navasero, a 17-year-old son of Philippine Amateur Baseball Association president Hector Navasero, delivered the marginal goal to the delight of the appreciative weekend crowd.

“There was action right in front of the goal and sticks were all over. Then we scored and I got the credit for it,” said Navasero after Label 5’s third-place finish in the three-day tournament that also featured teams from Tokyo-BFF and Shanghai.

Tokyo-BFF (Bangkok Flying Fangers) went undefeated in four matches and won the championship with a 3-0 win over Shanghai.

Label 5 won three of five matches in the tournament and could have made it to the finals if not for a painful 2-1 defeat to Qatar Friday evening. Label 5 made it to the battle for third following a 4-1 win over the Manila Predators.

COCKTAIL OF THE WEEK: LABEL 5 LEMONADE

Ingredients:
- 1 1/4 oz LABEL 5 SCOTCH WHISKY
- 2 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 cups water

Garnish: lemon slice (and mint leaves)

Combine sugar and one cup water in a sauce pan and boil until sugar is dissolved.
Allow syrup to cool.
Combine syrup with lemon juice and remaining seven cups of water.
Fill tall collins glass with ice, pour LABEL 5 SCOTCH WHISKY into glass.
Fill with lemonade.
Garnish with lemon slice.

“A fiery blend of whisky and tomato juice with Tabasco and Worcestershire sauces.”

What you’ll need

• 25ml measure of LABEL 5 Scotch Whisky
• tomato juice
• juice of half a lemon
• dash of Worcestershire sauce
• dash of Tabasco sauce

Shake together LABEL 5 Scotch Whisky, tomato juice, lemon juice,  Worcestershire sauce, dash of Tabasco sauce.

Fill a glass with ice and pour the mixture over and decorate with freshly ground black pepper.

Forbes: Pacquiao world’s 6th highest-paid athlete

Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao made it to Forbes magazine’s list of highest-paid athletes in the world, tying for the sixth spot with basketball phenom Lebron James and golfer Phil Mickelson.

Pacquiao is reportedly returning to the ring in November, possibly against welterweight star Miguel Cotto.
